The Patient Care Technician is responsible for support direct patient care and assisting clinical teams with essential daily activities to ensure a safe, efficient, and high-quality patient experience. This role works closely with nurses and other healthcare professionals to support patient comfort, mobility, monitoring, and basic clinical care throughout the hospital stay.

Job Role:   

  • Support nursing staff with direct patient care and unit-based activities
  • Assist with vital signs, intake and output, and basic patient monitoring as directed
  • Assist patients with mobility, ambulation, repositioning, and activities of daily living
  • Support patient hygiene, comfort, and basic personal care needs
  • Respond to call lights and patient requests in a timely and courteous manner
  • Observe and report changes in patient condition to nursing staff
  • Assist with patient admissions, transfers, and discharges
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized patient care environment
  • Stock supplies and ensure patient rooms and unit ares are properly equipped
  • Transport patients to and from procedures, testing, and other departments as needed
  • Document care activities in the EMR as required and within scope
  • Collaborate with nurses, providers, and ancillary staff to support continuity of care
  • Maintain patient privacy and confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA and hospital policies
Requirements

Successful Profiles Include:

  • Undergraduate Degree with a focus in pre-health, biology, chemistry, or related field
  • Experience in a clinical, pharmacy, or hospital-based setting is a plus
  • The desire to grow and be challenged to learn and improve
  • Comfort using basic office technology; Experience using electronic medical record (EMR) systems is a plus
  • Excellent interpersonal communication and a high level of professionalism
  • Strong organizational and critical thinking skills
  • Must have the ability to work in sometimes chaotic, fast-paced environments
  • Ability to read, write, comprehend through listening, and speak fluent English
  • Must have a computer or access to a computer for virtual/online training

Physical Requirements:

  • Able to perform all duties using a computer, keyboard, and other technology
  • Ability to bend at the waist, kneel, climb stairs, reach in all directions, fully use both hands and legs, possess good finger dexterity, perform repetitive motions with hands/wrists/elbows and shoulders, and reach in all directions
  • Ability to hear (corrected) and understand all information provided by patient or healthcare provider and transcribe into clear written records
  • Strong English verbal and written communication skills with the ability to interpret large amounts of information
  • Ability to work in an environment with moderate to high levels of noise and exchange accurate information in these situations transcribing the words and activities of the provider-patient portion of the encounter
  • Maintain 20/40 vision corrected
  • See and recognize objects close at hand and at a distance
  • Work in a latex safe environment and work indoors
  • Frequently lift and/or carry objects weighing 20 lbs. (+/-) unassisted
  • Continuous requirements are to perform job functions while standing, walking, and sitting
  • Infrequently work in dusty areas and confined/cramped spaces
  • Must be comfortable in patient care settings with bodily fluids in proximity
  • Ability to wear Personal Protective Equipment for long periods of time if required, including a facial mask
  • Ability to function in a high-stress medical environment as needed
